On Canada Day, a clean accounting of what a people did when they pulled together — what we have, what we still owe ourselves, and how blessed we are against the world’s real fire.
Good piece. Thank you. I'll note, though, that there was an error in regards to Ukraine:
"In Ukraine, a third summer of a war of invasion grinds on, cities under drones, a generation in uniform."
This is the fifth summer since the Russian invasion in 2022, and the twelfth summer since Russia occupied Crimea in 2014 and launched its then-thinly veiled conquest of the Donbas.
Noted and correction published On the record — correction: An earlier version referred to "a third summer" of the war in Ukraine. This was an error. Russia's full-scale invasion began 24 February 2022, making the summer of 2026 the fifth of the full-scale war; counting from Russia's annexation of Crimea and the start of the Donbas war in 2014, it is the twelfth summer of the broader Russo-Ukrainian conflict. Corrected with thanks to the reader who caught it. Sources: House of Commons Library; Council on Foreign Relations; Imperial War Museums.
Happy 🇨🇦 🍁 🇨🇦 🍁 🇨🇦 🍁 🇨🇦 Day
