In 2026, those two figures have been replaced by a Large Language Model. The AI sees the man in the ditch. It has access to the 20-volume Oxford English Dictionary (OED). It knows the definition of “Wounded” (afflicted with a wound), “Victim” (a person harmed as a result of a crime), and “Criminal” (one who has committed a crime). It offers a “balanced perspective.” It suggests that while the man appears to be bleeding, “some observers argue the ditch is a lifestyle choice,” or “the bandits have a complicated historical grievance that must be respected.”
