Completely agree. What a shame. This was her moment to really ‘rise’ for a unified Canada and show leadership and clarity.

And she failed miserably. That’s what happens when narcissism rules the soulless person.

When did “here is the evidence/proof” become “here are the receipts”?

Is this an American thing?

A receipt is a written or digital document confirming that money or property has been transferred from one party to another. It serves as official proof of purchase or payment, and it is commonly used for returns, warranties, tax deductions, and expense reimbursements.

Love the Carroll reference — and the full exchange is worth quoting, because Humpty doesn't stop at "it means just what I choose it to mean." Alice asks whether you can make words mean so many different things, and Humpty replies: "The question is which is to be master — that's all."

That's the real question.

"Receipts" in the figurative sense has been in print across a quarter century — Globe, Walrus, Tyee. Stable meaning, stable usage.

"Wokeism," by contrast, was coined as a pejorative in the late 2010s and gets redefined roughly every news cycle to mean whichever progressive position needs attacking that week.

So — which is to be master?

Give it up. This is what you're going to hang your hat on here? My late mother and hers before her often wrote "receipts" for what we call "recipes" today. I suspect you're aware that language evolves and words can be smithed. To save you the trouble of looking it up, Collins Canadan Dictionary defines "recipe" as "directions for cooking a dish" or "method for achieving something."

So when I’m paying the cashier down at the hardware store tomorrow, do you think it will be okay if I ask “Can I have a recipe for that?”

To coin a phrase used by millions of Americans these days, “why the FUCK, is an American commenting on Canadian politics?”

You speak any type of “American” you want. Us Canadians will speak English!
